After 1952

From 1953 the French originals come from the review Quatrième Internationale, and the English texts are those printed at the time in Fourth International (1958–64), World Outlook, Inprecor, International Marxist Review and International Viewpoint, as held in this archive’s sister sites. Each was paired with its French original by reading both. English texts printed only in Intercontinental Press are cited on the French page but not yet reproduced here.

What is here

The documents collected by Rodolphe Prager in Les congrès de la IVe Internationale (four volumes, La Brèche, 1978–1989), in English. Where an English translation was published at the time, usually in the Socialist Workers Party’s Fourth International, that text is given, from the Encyclopedia of Trotskyism On-Line’s transcriptions. Where none is known, the text is a machine-assisted translation from Prager’s French, spot-checked against it but not edited, and every such page says so.

Two documents of 1932 and 1935 whose English text is in Trotsky’s writings are not reproduced here; their French pages link to the English at the Marxists Internet Archive.
